For my makeup class, I had to make a clown design on my face. I am not a fan of clowns, so my design was a little more on the fun side.
This weekend, Mark and I opened the Sculpey clay and let our imaginations create these lovely clay heads. My figures need a little dental work and Mark's look like they are hypnotized. I can't wait until school is over so I can really try my hand at animation, and begin Walter the Worm.
Dylan's "Buckets of Rain" will be on repeat until I have to go to work. And will continue to repeat in my mind as I work. Today is just that sort of day.
I will be spending my halloween weekend sculpting figures with my new Sculpey clay! I've began writing a screenplay/working on developing a story based on a childhood memory of
mine--Walter the Worm. It will be an animation. I will start to post my ideas and concepts here. I will probably wait to make it once I move somewhere, construct a nice little studio for myself, and "hire" a great team of artists to work with me.
My characters may not end up being clay figures, seeing as the original Walter the Worm was a brown piece of yarn...
There are so many girl/guy duos popping up out there, it's hard to find a really good one. Although not totally impressed by the song I do like some elements of it--her voice, for one, and the simplicity of it as a whole. I do enjoy the video directed by Simon Filip (he's a year younger than me!). I find the concept of this video to reflect my last post.
Last night I watched the movie "Ratcatcher" (dir. by Lynne Ramsay, 1999) which is set during Scotland's national garbage strike of the mid-1970's. The movie explores the experiences of a poor adolescent boy as he struggles to reconcile his dreams of leaving his neighborhood.
It was so well done--candid performances and beautiful imagery. There is a sequence of shots that I just can't get out of my mind which involved a boy reaching for a comb from his pocket in order to hurt someone. Next shot cuts to a close up of a deep red strawberry sauce dripping down a girl's ice cream.
Although this isn't the scene I am talking about, I'll leave you with this elusive, yet stunning, image which will hopefully make you want to see this movie!
I'll leave you today with a quote by one of my favorite people:
"How wrong Emily Dickinson was! Hope is not 'the thing with feathers.' The thing with features has turned out to be my nephew. I must take him to a specialist in Zurich."
I miss going on mini photoshoot adventures. I need to pick up this hobby again soon, which means I need to order a bunch of 35mm film considering my digital camera is a piece (of s*%#) and I don't use it anymore.
I am currently working on short films about people in their favorite spaces/environments. This past weekend, I started to make one about Mark (mi novio) and his favorite (and my favorite) places to go to in Minneapolis. Without any predetermined plans, I took the camera out into the world and recorded whatever I wanted to. Here are some video "stills" from what I've been editing so far. To be continued...
You'd think after the 5th week of school I would start to get in the swing of things. But every semester, I end up with at least 2 classes that are a complete waste of my time, and I say that without too much pessimism.

Luckily, I have mini adventures to Minneapolis (every so often) to look forward to--especially this past weekend, I saw Jamie Lidell in concert. It was a rather exciting concert, to say the least. Here are a few shots I snapped from the front row:
I'll wrap this post up with what is supposed to come on Tuesdays--some tunes! Enjoy.
